In Season For the Family Getaways Golf Seasoned Travelers

Rather than choose your vacation destination from a brochure, let our staff tell you about their own trips. They'll tell you how they chose their destination and give you personal recommendations and hints about how to have the same great time they had on their vacation.

Lori Schwartz Lori is married and the mother of two children under 9 years old. Her travel recommendation is Mexico, particularly Ixtapa.
What was the attraction? stafpic2.gif (21849 bytes)

"When my husband and I got married, we went to Cancun for our honeymoon. I was really taken by the culture in Mexico, the beauty of the land, water and hospitality. So now I am studying that region and I went to Ixtapa last year and enjoyed that destination even more."

What would you recommend to the traveler who takes the same trip? stafpic3.gif (20065 bytes)

"We stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental (all inclusive). They catered to our every need with smiles on their faces. With 4 restaurants, every night you got to choose from different delicacies; Italian, Gourmet, Seafood (catch-of-the-day or buffet). The children's club was wonderful for the children. They kept them busy and even had baby turtles to send out to ocean at certain times of the year."

Any special advice for someone who wants to take the same trip? stafpic1.gif (23112 bytes)

"Take plenty of sunscreen and be ready to bargain at the marketplace. You can find some really great deals!"

Do you have any special memories of the trip? "My family and I arrived in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa and fell in love with the unspoiled beauty of the mountains and the bubbly personalities of the people. I'll never forget the city tour we took with an Apple representative who told us the history of this beautiful tourist destination. Ixtapa was especially made for the traveler and the city name means 'white place' for its beauty."
Holly Rae Vocal Holly recently toured Europe by train. "I enjoy 'training' it through Europe, exploring history and culture while going it on my own."
What was the attraction? "I attended L Universite de Cala in Normandy. I've a great love of France, Europe and it's diverse cultures, histories and languages.
What would you recommend to the traveler who takes the same trip? "Car rental companies are situated at train stations much like we have them at our airports. But make sure you get there during the day. They don't have the same hours as our American rental services."
Any special advice for someone who wants to take the same trip? "Europe is chock-full of cultures, languages, climates and landscapes. It is ideal for the person who would like to be fascinated, taken aback, or get in touch with oneself. Although there are certainly spots for good 'ol hedonism (St. Tropez, etc.), Europe has so much more to offer. A trip here should be planned carefully if going it alone like I usually do. Guided tours put together by GLOBUS and Cosmos tour companies take the worry out of planning. I recommend them highly for the person who is perhaps apprehensive about going out alone or for someone who has never been to Europe before. They're comprehensive tours that touch on all the major historic sites and tourists meccas.

If you do "go it alone", don't be afraid to rent a car and drive. Some of the most interesting restaurants, historic and out of the way places can only be found and appreciated by exploring independently and on your own schedule.

Do you have any special memories of the trip? "I'll never forget when my French father (the family I stayed with while going to school) cried when I presented him with a jar of Skippy. He said he hadn't had peanut butter since WWII when an American soldier shared some with him during the D-Day invasion.
Danielle June Fletcher Danielle is a single woman who looks for a place to have a great party and all around great time. Danielle chose to take a friend and pack her bags for Jamaica.
What was the attraction? "I wanted a place to get away from it all, relax in a beautiful place, and dance and party at night. Jamaicans are renowned for knowing how to have a good time!"
Any special advice for someone who wants to take the same trip? Danielle recommends going with an all-inclusive plan if you like to party. She says "If you stay in familiar places, and at the resorts, and exercise caution — there's NO PROBLEM MON!"
Do you have any special memories of the trip? "From basking in the sun on the beautiful beaches, jet skiing, parasailing, climbing Dunn's River Falls, and bargaining with the natives at the Straw markets by day... to celebrating and dancing the night away the discos; it was the time of my life!"
Debby Wilson Debbie is single and she recommends Disney World — a place for all ages and types (singles, families, etc.)
What was the attraction? "The extreme happiness and peace I felt when enjoying the parks. This truly is the happiest place on earth. They have shows, rides, parades and Mickey Mouse. What more could you ask for in a trip?"
What would you recommend to the traveler who takes the same trip? "I would stay on Disney property for the convenience and time involved. For a little more money, you have everything at your finger tips. Do it! Book ahead. Disney is very popular, but it is a vacation of a lifetime with memories to last forever. Go with an open mind, because there are lines, but you can pick different times to do different things. It is all a matter of planning!"
